Contemporary Bolgheri

FABIO MOTTA

“I didn’t go looking for wine, it was wine that came and found me”

Since 2009, the year in which the winery was established, Fabio Motta has followed a linear and constant production philosophy, borrowed from his experience working in contact with the great winemaker from Bolgheri, Michele Satta: every bottle is the result of a personal vision, which is always faithful to the land and the vintage but never the same. Nothing has changed following Fabio Motta’s entry into the Agricole Gussalli Beretta group: wine is intimately linked to the person who makes it and to the vineyard where it originates, and these are the elements that generate the value, personality and unique nature of every bottle.

A personal vision of wine

Every label is the reflection of a vintage, a territory and an elegant, contemporary production philosophy.

Every label is the result of a precise choice: to express the character of the Bolgheri terroir by means of respectful, meticulous and timely work.  Fabio Motta’s wines do not follow defined patterns but interpret the seasons and soils with artisanal sensitivity.

The three red wines – Le Gonnare, Le Pievi, Lo Scudiere – each one different from the others, are united by an elegant, clean and recognisable style. From the intense Merlot to the 100% Sangiovese, each sip you take evokes a balance between power and finesse. Vermentino Le Gonnare, vinified and aged in amphora, completes the range with freshness and depth.

Seconding the qualities of the land cultivated, along with the climate, and working in the vineyard and cellar to allow all this to express itself in the glass: this is the mindset that guides all the choices made by Fabio Motta.

Unconventional Bolgheri

Grapes

Nine varieties, including Merlot, Sangiovese, Vermentino and Cabernet Sauvignon, cultivated with a sustainable, sartorial approach and vinified while maintaining the character and differences of each individual vintage.

Vineyards

A microcosm of 9.62 hectares in Bolgheri, with sandy-clayey soils, cooled by sea breezes and illuminated by the gentle afternoon sun. Three main vineyards, Pievi, Le Gonnare and Felciaio, for three different expressions of the terroir.

Wines

Four labels of true elegance and character: a Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC, a Bolgheri Rosso DOC and two Toscana IGT, one white and one red.

Production

From vinification to ageing, every choice makes a difference

Vinification is calibrated to each variety and vintage. Vermentino Le Gonnare is fermented in steel to preserve its freshness, Bolgheri Rosso Le Pievi in concrete to enhance its primary aromas, while Lo Scudiere, 100% Sangiovese, is vinified in oak vats, sometimes with the whole bunch, to obtain greater finesse. Bolgheri Superiore Le Gonnare is also vinified in oak or concrete, depending on the specific characteristics of the grapes and the vintage.

Ageing takes place in carefully chosen containers: terracotta amphorae for Le Gonnare Vermentino, concrete for Le Pievi, third-passage barriques for Lo Scudiere and lightly toasted barriques (25% new) for Le Gonnare Bolgheri Superiore.
